An engineer, producer, and DJ exploring the grooves and echoes of the past and the future.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from UC Berkeley in 2017 and worked for various Tech Companies and projects.
However, I began my journey in music much earlier as an experimental hip-hop producer and DJ for various local artists in China in 2013, drawing influence from old-school hip-hop, esoteric movie samples, and traditional Chinese opera, among others. This culminated in two albums under the name Vicious Animal 动物凶猛: Volume I (2017) and Volume II (2020), constructing a chaotic, difficult, unique yet cohesive sonic universe from within the Great Walls of China.
Both albums were well-received by domestic audiences and were nominated for Best Release of the Year by several media outlets, including ErDi and Douban’s Abby Road Award.
Driven by my ever-expanding curiosity in music and a career as club/bedroom DJ dabbling in various styles of music from cambodia psych rock to PC Music, I have explored a variety of genres, moving from a sample-based approach to a new focus on electronic and popular music. Little Radiator is the natural result of merging my beat-making background with groove-intensive dance music, such as jungle/garage, along with pop, R&B, and occasional jazz toplines, infused with East Asian characteristics.
I am open to DJ and live booking, collaboration related to beatmaking and mixing. Please send all inquires to 1994ep@gmail.com.
